TROTWOOD —
A 47-year-old Trotwood man already convicted for stealing from older people was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into a series of incidents in which older residents reported being scammed.
William J. Donohoue faces three potential charges of felony theft, according to Trotwood police Sgt. Joseph McCrary.
McCrary said the suspect went door-to-door offering to do odd jobs for older residents. The suspect would be specific about jobs he could do, get money from the victims to go buy the materials, but would not return to do the job.
McCrary said three victims, ranging in age from 66 to 81, gave the suspect in the three incidents $45, $100 and $50. The incidents occurred at homes on Brookhaven, Loretta and Nona drives, McCrary said.
While the dollar amount taken would be a misdemeanor, McCrary said the suspect preyed on those over the age of 65 and that makes it a felony under Ohio law.
According to Montgomery County court records, Donohoue was convicted in 2008 of “elderly theft” and was sentenced to community control.
He was expected to be booked into the county jail and held pending arraignment.
