Staff Report
DAYTON —
A woman and two children escaped injury late Monday night when a pick-up truck slammed into an apartment building at 3624 Gettysburg Avenue. It also prompted a call-out to the haz-mat team.
Police said the driver, 36-year-old Steven D. Turner, was driving southbound on Gettysburg when he crossed into the northbound lanes. They said the truck went up on the curb and into the building.
The woman and children were upstairs when the truck hit and were able to get out of the building safely.
Officers said the driver was carrying 100 gallons of driveway sealant. On impact, the sealant came off the back of the truck and splashed tar on the building.
As crews were trying to move the container, it spilled onto Gettysburg Avenue. It left a 50-foot trail on the street. A hazardous materials team was called in to neutralize the spill.
Turner is being held in the Montgomery County Jail. Police said he will face charges of OVI, driving with a suspended license, and failure to control.
