Twin Valley Prepares To Close Doors Monday

DAYTON, Ohio —

Dayton’s only public psychiatric hospital will close its doors for good on Monday.

Twin Valley Behavioral Healthcare will close after 153 years of helping people. Most of the long-term patients at the hospital have been moved to other facilities around the state.

The closing of the facility means that about 200 workers will be losing their jobs. Officials said about 45 of the workers retired, while some of the others took jobs at other facilities. However, the remaining workers were left without a job.

In January, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland made the decision to close the hospital to offset a state budget deficit.

Last week, Strickland vetoed a bill that would provide last-minute money to keep the facility open.
