DAYTON, Ohio —
Authorities said a Trotwood resident called and reported a home burglary. Two officers went to the home to take the robbery report.
Investigators said one officer stayed to take the report while the other officer left to search for the described vehicle.
Moments later, a Trotwood officer and Montgomery County Sheriff Deputy Jon Miller spotted the car in question at a Third Street convenience store. As the two officers approached the suspect in the car, he fired shots at them. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The suspect, Matthew Grimes fled the scene in a Trotwood cruiser and later crashed near Sinclair Community College. He then fired several shots at Dayton police officers. They in return fired shots at Grimes, wounding him. He is recovering from his gunshot wounds at Miami Valley Hospital.
