UD Police Provide Safety Tips For Students

By Mark Bruce

DAYTON, Ohio —

University of Dayton police are asking students to take a few minutes for safety before leaving for Thanksgiving break. Officers would like students to secure their belongings before taking off for the holiday season.

University of Dayton police Chief Bruce Burt said, "We enhance patrol in the student neighborhoods near houses to make sure they are checked regularly by our patrol officers. We have more visibility with officers in the neighborhood and we allow them to monitor who should and shouldn't be in those areas."

Authorities recommend that students take home valuables like cell phones and laptops. Students are also encouraged to make sure their doors and windows are locked and that their lights and security systems are on.

Marie Wetzel, senior at University of Dayton, said, "We are locking both the front and back door and making sure all of the windows are closed."

Burt said crime prevention is common sense. Do not leave valuables unattended and secure your residences.
