Urbana Man Arrested After 2-County Chase

URBANA, Ohio —

Authorities said a high-speed chase weaved its way through Clark and Champaign counties Friday morning and ended with a rape suspect in custody.

Deputies in Champaign County, along with state troopers, chased the suspect south on Route 68, onto Interstate 70 and then back north on Route 68.

Joseph Rollins, 36, of Champaign County, was wanted in connection with a sexual assault that happened in Urbana on Friday morning.

Rollins is accused of holding a woman inside her Terry Lane home at knifepoint for four hours, police said. Investigators said that at about 8:30 a.m. Friday, deputies reported seeing Rollins driving on River Road.

Authorities said Rollins would not pull over and that is when the chase started. The Ohio State Patrol got involved in the chase, which went through two counties.

Rollins was eventually taken into custody on Church Road near Route 560.

Urbana police said Rollins is a registered sex offender. At this time, he is being questioned about the alleged incident early Friday morning.

Investigators said Rollins also has a warrant out of Miami County for strong arm rape.

The woman who was assaulted Friday morning is being treated at a local hospital.
