Vegetable oil shuts down SR47 in Sidney

By Steve Baker

Northern Bureau Chief

SIDNEY, Ohio —

Approximately 25 gallons of spilled vegetable oil closed down State Route 47 into downtown Sidney Monday morning into the afternoon. The highway was closed between Fourth St. and Wilkinson Ave.

Sidney fire officials and Cargill Inc. representatives determined there was an accidental vegetable spill on the roadway.

An outside contractor was hired to cleanup the spilled material, according to Sidney Fire Chief  Bradley Jones.

The highway was closed in both directions for several hours. It has since been reopened by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
