Versailles HS athlete finalist in Wendy's Heisman Award

One of 12 left....1 male and 1 female to receive the award

VERSAILLES, Ohio —

A Versailles High School senior, a cross-country stand-out,  is one of 12 finalists in Wendy's Heisman Award Program.

Sam Prakel, 18,  was honored during an all-school assembly in the high school gym Wednesday morning as represents from Wendy's made the annoucement.

The national winners, one male and one female, will be announced on December 9, 2012 on ESPN2.

Over 48,000 students applied for the award. It was narrowed down to 1,020, then cut further to 102, then down to 12. Prakel is among the final 12 up for consideration.

In the 2011-12 school year, according to a banner hanging in the gym, Sam Prakel was honored as  Ohio's boy's cross county runner of the year by Gatorade.
