Video Released In Violent Assualt On Market Employees

DAYTON, Ohio —

Dayton police release a dramatic videotape of a violent assault on employees at a Dayton market.

Officers say the incident involves a former employee arguing, then fighting and assaulting current store employees.

Danner Market Video The incident happened a week ago at the Danner Avenue Market at Danner and Weaver.

Dayton police say when they arrived on the scene no one was left in the store except the former employee.

The other people had left the store and locked Ibrahim Awad inside after the assault.

The Danner Avenue market's in-store video surveillance system shows Awad standing at the store's counter, and then apparently yelling at employees.

A manager comes over to try to calm Awad down, but that quickly deteriorates into a brief fistfight.

Weapons are drawn and a shaky standoff is in place for a few moments.

However, it's not long before Awad begins to trash the store, throwing anything his hands touch at other employees and just for effect.

Police and store employees say Awad is a former employee fired about three years ago and because of that the situation gets worse, he goes to the meat department and grabs two carving knives.

He throws one at an employee, misses his target and retrieves the knife.

After waiting a few moments, he finds one of the employees hiding in one of the store's aisles, attacked, and stabbed a 49-year-old worker.

The employees eventually managed to get out and police arrested Awad.

The store's manager says they never expected this type of behavior from him.
