Wallet Left At Crash Scene Leads To Man's Arrest

DAYTON, Ohio —

A man accused of causing a three-car crash ran from the scene Monday, but left behind his wallet and was apprehended a short time later at his home.

Police used the man’s ID to find him and he was arrested in connection with the hit-and-run on Wayne Avenue near the parking lot of Family Video.

“I don’t know if he was drunk or high on some kind of drug, but he was definitely under the influence,” said Shelby Pooler, whose car was involved in the accident.

Three people were injured in the accident, including Joseph Cox’s aunt and cousin. At least one person went directly from the scene to a local hospital.

“She can't see out her right eye,” Cox said of his aunt, “and my cousin can't move his left arm. It's pretty bad.”

Officers would not comment on whether or not they believe the suspect was drunk

“When he got out he said 'I'm sorry' and took off running,” said Michelle Pooler, whose car was also involved in the accident. “It was just quick. I really can't tell what happened.”
