Wittenberg University Defends Financial Health

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio —

Wittenberg University is fighting back after a bank ranking by Forbes Magazine.

In a recent look into the financial health of the country's most prominent colleges, Forbes ranked Wittenberg in the bottom 10, an analysis that university officials called misleading and irresponsible.

The report showed Wittenberg's expenses exceeded revenue by $7 million in 2008.

University officials said a one-year snapshot is not a good indicator of financial health.

Despite two economic challenging years in a recession, officials they have cut no programs, faculty members or support services. They also said tuition increases have been held at historic lows.
