Woman Organizes Breastfeeding 'Feed-In' At Area Mall

More than 160 women are expected to join an area mother at the Mall at Fairfield Commons for a “Feed-In” this weekend.

Rhonda Bell says security guards at the mall refused to let her breastfeed her baby inside the building. Bell has organized the “Feed-In” at the mall’s food court for 2 p.m. Sunday.

“They denied me my legal right,” said Bell. “I’m allowed to breastfeed. That’s my right and they denied it.”

The head of mall security called to apologize, but Bell says that’s not enough.

The mall also released a statement saying Bell was over-exposed and that several shoppers were complaining. However, the statement also says: “At no time was she asked to leave our property or mandate that she use any other area of the mall. We welcome all mothers and families at the Mall at Fairfield Commons.”

Bell has built up a support system online and expects a big crowd for the “Feed-In.”

“I have over 162 posts from local women talking about how they’re going to come and help support me in breastfeeding,” she said.
