XENIA, Ohio —
Xenia City Council will discuss the issue in a special session Thursday night, and people on both sides of the issue let News Center 7 know where they stand.
Brittany Reynolds of Beavercreek owns two pit bulls and frequently visits the Xenia Dog Park with them.
"It's sad," Reynolds said. "It's just heartbreaking to see everybody think they're horrible dogs when they're not."
City council's goal is protecting people from being attacked by pit bulls. A 59-year-old woman was mauled by two pit bulls behind an apartment complex in September 2010. Officers had to shoot and kill one of the dogs to end the attack. Animal control was able to corral the other dog
Neither were wearing tags.
Linda Dolbeer of Beavercreek said the breed is dangerous, but she thinks the solution to the problem is making sure the dogs end up with proper, responsible owners.
The City of Fairborn banned pit bulls in 2008, but they grandfathered current owners out of the ban. The proposed ban in Xenia does not mention protecting people who already own pit bulls.
