Dragons Rained Out Thursday

DAYTON, Ohio —

The Midwest League game between the Dayton Dragons and the Peoria Chiefs was canceled due to rain on Thursday at Fifth Third Field.

The teams endured two lengthy rain delays totaling two hours and 47 minutes before Midwest League umpires determined that field conditions would not allow the game to resume.

Since the two teams do not meet again in 2009, the game will not be rescheduled.

Information for fans holding tickets to Thursday's game will be released by the Dragons on Friday.

Peoria jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run homer by Ryan Flaherty. The Chiefs added another run in the fourth and led 3-0 when the game was stopped for the second time due to heavy rain with two outs in the top of the fourth inning.

The game did not resume. None of the statistics from Thursday's game will become official.

The Dragons (14-18, 42-60) host the Burlington Bees (14-18, 43-59) on Friday at 7:05 p.m. in the first game of a three-game series. Curtis Partch will try for his fifth straight win for Dayton. He is 8-7, 4.67.

The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Channel 708 on most Time Warner Cable systems). Former Reds pitcher Doug Bair will provide color commentary.
