Local Olympian Returns To Celebration In Kettering

KETTERING, Ohio —

The Miami Valley gave its newest Olympic silver medalist a hero’s pep rally on Thursday.

Hyleas Fountain who recently returned from Beijing, China, after participating in the 2008 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal, made her first public appearance on Thursday.

She was greeted by fans and friends at the Home Depot on Wilmington Pike, where she used to work.

Hyleas worked at Home Depot and lived in Kettering while she was training for the Olympics. She put on quite a show winning the bronze medal in the heptathlon; however, the silver medalist was disqualified for testing positive for banned substances, allowing Hyleas to take the silver medal.

She is adjusting now to some newfound stardom. She is scheduled to appear on "The Oprah Show."

Hyleas is expected to appear in Monday’s Holiday At Home Parade in Kettering. The parade will be shown on WHIO-TV, Channel at 10 a.m.
