Raiders Name Curylo Head Softball Coach

DAYTON, Ohio —

Lynn Curylo, an assistant coach at the University of Illinois the past two seasons, has been named the head softball coach at Wright State University, WSU Senior Associate Director of Athletics Maureen Cooper announced Friday.

While at Illinois, Curylo assisted with pitching and catching, outfield and offense. In the two years that she was part of the coaching staff, the Fighting Illini posted a record of 74-25, including a 28-9 mark in the Big Ten. After the 2009 squad went 29-17 overall and 12-7 in conference, Illinois went 45-8 in 2010, 16-2 in the Big Ten, and finished second at the NCAA Columbia Regional behind Missouri.

"Lynn came to us very highly recommended from various people and she stood out as a top candidate from the start," said Cooper. "Her experience and accomplishments as an assistant and student-athlete at a high level will aid her in keeping our program on track and continue to build on the successes we have had in softball at Wright State. We welcome her and look forward to working with her to achieve that success."

Before going to Illinois, Curylo was an assistant at Tennessee State for two seasons. During her first season in 2007, the Tigers finished 35-23, the first winning season in the history of the program. In the last four years, two at Illinois and two at Tennessee State, Curylo has been involved with 125 wins.

“I couldn't ask for a better opportunity than to be the next head softball coach at Wright State University,” said Curylo. “The energy and enthusiasm that surrounds the softball program is evident the moment you step onto the campus.”

Prior to her time at Tennessee State, Curylo was the head coach at Milikan High School in Long Beach, California, from 2001-06. She led the team to the CIF championship in 2005, earning Coach of the Year honors for the accomplishment.

Curylo has a connection with Horizon League softball history as she played for UIC from 1994-97, with the Flames a part of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference (now the Horizon League) the final three years. A standout outfielder, she was a First Team All-MCC selection in 1996 and 1997 and is currently fifth on the school's all-time list in triples with 12.

Curylo was part of the 1994 UIC squad that won 53 games and advanced to the College World Series. During her career, the Flames won 198 games overall and posted a league mark of 58-3.

Curylo, who earned her bachelor's degree in kinesiology from UIC in 1998, replaces Linda Garza, who left in August to become the associate head coach at Cal Poly after leading the Raiders to 31 wins and their fourth NCAA appearance in the last eight yea
