DAYTON, Ohio —

An athlete with plans to play football at the University of Dayton, must serve a jail sentence first.

21-year-old David Ghysels is spending seven days in jail. He started the sentence on Monday.

Ghysels was originally charged with raping a 16-year-old girl, but after authorities confirmed that the sex was consenual, the charge was reduced to a misdeamnor.

Ghysels was a standout in baseball and football at Springboro High School. His lawyer said the sentence will end Monday and allow him to begin practice with the team at the University of Dayton.
