Wakeboarders Competing In The Miami Valley

EASTWOOD METROPARK —

Wakeboarders are descending on the Miami Valley this weekend. The 11th USA Wakeboard National Championships are being held at Eastwood Metropark.

Wakeboarding is an extreme sport that is a lot like snowboarding, but on water. Participants range in age from 9-years-old to adult and this competition will feature the best of the best.

Each wakeboarder is allowed one fall before their attempt for "tricks" is over.

There are wakeboarders from all over the country taking part, including a few from in the Dayton area. Cole Robinson from Fairborn said he did well Friday morning. "It will hopefully put me in good shape for the preliminary rounds," said Robinson.

The national attention and involvement will serve to bring dollars to some local hotels and restaurants.

All the wakeboaders who make it through Friday's preliminary rounds will be in the final championship on Sunday. The National Championship takes place Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Eastwood Metropark.

The event is free to the public. All are welcome to bring blankets and chairs to watch the event, while enjoying music and good food.
