XENIA —
An estimated 100 Dayton Power & Light customers in this Greene County city could be without power for a few more hours yet tonight because of high winds that have blown trees or tree limbs into power lines.
Crews are having to replace at least one pole because of the outages, and that means the utility at 9:45 p.m. was uncertain as to when power would be restored, said Kevin Hall, director of operations.
At about 9 p.m., service for approximately 148 customers in the Lewisburg/West Alexandria areas of Preble County was restored by crews that had to repair a pole that caught fire two hours earlier, Hall said.
“We’ve had some scattered outages throughout the evening as the rain has moved through” the Miami Valley during the day, Hall said.
DP&L will maintain the additional staffing into the night, as the utility did during the day, in anticipation of falling temperatures that Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist Jamie Simpson said could make roadways slick. More showers are forecast for tonight, and the dropping temperatures will change that precipitation to snow showers at any time.
“One of the challenges we will face, if the roads become icy, is vehicle accidents that involve slide-offs into poles,” Hall said.
