SOUTHWEST OHIO —
A winter storm warning for the region will go into effect at 11 a.m. today as snow showers are expected to blanket the area.
Slick spots on area roadways are still possible this morning, especially in area north of Interstate 70 where temperatures are a little colder, said Meteorologist Erica Collura. At 4:30 a.m., road temperatures were right around freezing, with the air temperature at 32, she said.
Some areas of rain, snow and sleet are possible through the morning, and most of the precipitation will change to rain through the afternoon. By this afternoon, road conditions will improve with highs in the mid-30s, she said. Rain showers are expected to change over to snow by this evening.
“The worst of the road conditions will be tonight and tomorrow morning with snow accumulating,” she said.
Two to eight inches of snow is possible through Wednesday afternoon, with the heaviest of snow occurring tonight, she said. Four to eight inches of snow is possible north of I-70.
Snow will continue overnight and taper down through Wednesday morning.
The winter storm warning is in effect in Auglaize, Butler, Champaign, Clark, Clinton, Darke, Greene, Logan, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby counties in Ohio as well as the Indiana counties of Union and Wayne from 11 a.m. Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon because of the potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that will make travel dangerous.
This is the first March snowfall of 2 inches or more since March 7-8, 2008, when 15 inches fell during a two-day span recorded at Dayton International Airport.
Any snow that does accumulate likely won’t stick around long as temperatures are expected to hit the 40s on Friday and move to near 50 on Saturday with sun returning to the region.
