SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- A 2-year old boy remains hospitalized after being mauled by a neighbor's dog Tuesday outside his Springfield home.

Now, the boy's mother is calling for the dog to be euthanized. Ashley Ward said she had her 2-week-old baby in one arm, a diaper bag in the other, and her 2-year old son Pierson was walking beside her when the dog attacked.

The dog that attacked Pierson was captured by Clark County Humane Society officers and placed in a 10-day quarantine.

Pierson is being treated at Children's Medical Center in Dayton. Hospital officials say nationally, there are 4.7 million dog bites every year, involving victims between 5 and 9 years old.

Pierson Ward is expected to make a full recovery.
