Candidates Lining Up To Run Against Turner

Politcal candidates are lining up to run against Miami Valley Congressman Mike Turner.

Turner will have several challengers including a fellow Republican who says he is too "middle of the road." Turner was first elected to Congress in 2002 and now faces another round of challengers. Among them is a fellow Republican, Rene Oberer, who's hoping to pull off an upset.

"As for Turner, he likes the spending. He thinks he's doing us a favor by bringing home the pork," said Oberer.

Oberer, of Butler Township, is launching her campaign for Congress with a series of interviews with local media. She said Congress just doesn't get it.

"i"m watching all of the regulations in Washington. I'm watching balloon spending and mortgaging our children's spending futures and I can't just talk about it anymore. I have to do something about it."

Turner is getting competition from Democrats too. Among them, Dr. Mark MacNealy of Vandalia.

MacNealy said, "Congress is not working. We need to get Congress working again and that's why I'm running for Congress."

Both MacNealy and Oberer said running in this district is very difficult. The district is large and leans to Republican candidates.

The candidates said this year's issues will be the economy and health care.

"The critical problem with health care is we keep using the same model and we keep trying to expand it. The model we have doesn't work," said MacNealy.
