DAYTON, Ohio -- For the first time in months there is news about prices at the pump that does not involve tightening up the budget even more. Gas prices per gallon have fallen about .50 cents in the last couple of weeks. That brings the price of regular unleaded gas in most spots somewhere between $3.60 and $3.70 a gallon. That trend is welcome news for many drivers, most of whom are still being cautious and a little cynical about these small steps in the right direction. Mark Duckro said, "Well, it's the same as if they raised the prices up to $5 a gallon and then lowered them to $4.50, everyone would say wow, that's great but really, it's just, you don't know, whatever their reason is behind all that."Duckro was stopping at a Shell station at the corner of Delphi and Linden in Dayton, The prices there were listed at $3.64 a gallon. In Huber Heights, the Speedway station at Needmore Road next to Interstate 75 was pumping fuel at $3.62 a gallon. The Marathon station at Old Troy Pike and Needmore Road went even lower, listing $3.60 a gallon as their asking price.
Mike Campbell Reports On Lower Gas Prices

His job with Delphi transferred him from the Dayton area to Columbus. His round trip to work each day is 170 miles. Some days he drives a Chevy Aveo that gets about 35 miles per gallon. On this day, he was riding his 1996 Harley-Davidson motorcycle which gives him 45 miles per gallon. Even so, he would have liked to jump on the alternative fuels and vehicles bandwagon. "If Chevy or GM would have had a hybrid when I got my Aveo, yeah, I would have bought it, I wanted a hybrid," said Duckro.Analysts said one reason for lower gas prices is the fact that a barrel of oil has dropped from $147 a barrel to just below $125 a barrel this week. Another reason for the lower prices is that demand for gasoline in the U.S. has dropped almost 3 percent.
