WARREN COUNTY, Ohio -- Authorities said a Dayton Bombers hockey player was busted in an Internet sex sting.

Prosecutors in Warren County arrested the player Monday night after they said he made plans, in an Internet chat room, to meet two 13-year-old girls for sex.

The Warren County Cyber Crimes Task Force conducted the investigation. Detectives said they simply went to an online chat room, posed as a 13-year-old girl and waited for someone to strike up a conversation.

Investigators said 23-year-old Dan Knapp started the chat and then it quickly turned into sex talk.

Knapp was a forward on the team just a year after leaving Ohio State University. He is now charged with going online to solicit two 13-year-old girls for sex and for attempting to have sex with teens. Detectives said the chats were with undercover detectives posing as two 13-year-old girls.

Authorities in Warren County said Knapp made arrangements to meet them at KD Market in Clearcreek Township. They said Knapp showed up at the market, but was met by detectives instead of the girls.

Detectives said Knapp’s plan was to go to one of the teen’s homes in Clearcreek Township. Investigators said Knapp was unsuccessful on Monday night, but they wonder if he has been successful in the past.

As part of the investigation, detectives served a warrant at Knapp’s home in Beavercreek and removed computers to search for evidence of chats with real teenage girls.

If convicted, Knapp could face time in prison. He could also be required to register as a sex offender.
