Wednesday, July 6, 2005 – updated: 9:00 am EDT July 24, 2005

In the United States, Lance Armstrong makes most of the headlines when it comes to the Tour de France.

But he's always the first person to heap praise on teammates, because he knows he couldn't be the six-time defending champ of the tour without them. Team mananager Johann Bruyneel announced the Discovery Channel Pro Cycling Team members for the Tour de France on June 22.

  • Lance Armstrong (USA)
  • George Hincapie (USA)
  • Jose Luis Rubiera (Spain)
  • Manuel Beltran (Spain)
  • Benjamin Noval (Spain)
  • Pavel Padrnos (Czech Republic)
  • Jose Azevedo (Portugal)
  • Paolo Savoldelli (Italy)
  • Yaroslav Popovych (Ukraine)
  • Only Hincapie has raced alongside Armstrong for all six Tour victories. Next highest is Rubiera with four (2001-2004) and Padrnos with three (2002-2004). Beltran has taken part in Armstrong's last two Tour victories while Azevedo and Noval raced with the team for the first time last year, according to Armstrong's Web site, www.thepaceline.com.
