Scott MacFarlane

News Center 7 Washington Correspondent

Washington D.C. investigative reporter Scott MacFarlane learned Washington from the inside out.

He joined our Washington D.C. Newsroom in 2005 after spending time as a policy advisor and broadcast consultant on Capitol Hill.

Scott’s investigative stories have unearthed cases of government waste and misconduct.   His reporting triggered Congressional investigations of security procedures at the TSA, the safety of the nation’s subway systems and outrageous expenditures by the US Interior Dept. and the Federal Maritime Commission.  And he broke the story of a police investigation of assault by a US Congresswoman.

Scott’s use of the Freedom of Information has helped him score dozens of exclusive stories, and helped him secure honors and awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, Associated Press and the Humane Society of the United States.

Previously, for two years, Scott was heard filing breaking news stories for the CBS Radio Network.

He also served as an enterprise and political reporter for CBS TV affiliates in Cleveland and Detroit.

In 2001, Scott earned the Wade H. McCree award for excellence in reporting on the justice system.  Three years earlier, he won first place in the national William Randolph Hearst Broadcast News Competition, for his work reporting on the homeless.

Scott graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications, where he met his wife, Lisa, on the first day of school.  He is an active alumnus of the University’s WAER and WJPZ radio.
