OKEANA, Ohio -- A soldier from western Ohio has died while serving in Iraq.

The military had not yet released details Monday about the death of 24-year-old Anthony Vinnedge, of Okeana. His mother, Deborah Vinnedge, confirmed his death but said it's too soon for her to talk about it.

Vinnedge's rank and unit were unavailable. He joined the military shortly after graduating from Talawanda High School in Oxford in 2001.

Friends said Vinnedge enjoyed the military and re-enlisted after serving his initial four-year term.
