INTERNSHIPS, PAYMENT, AND CREDIT HOURS:
Students are not paid for internships. Students are required to get classroom credit for internships. Internships are available year round. The duration of the internship is tied to the school's academic year, whether it is based on quarters or semesters.THE INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE:
An internship exposes the student to the operation of a modern television newsroom. Interns assist in the production of newscasts and news stories. Our goal is to get the student oriented to the television news business. Duties are scheduled in advance and the intern works in the newsroom.An internship may include working on the Assignment Desk. This area is the logistics and story origination center of the newsroom and carries an emphasis on research and follow-up. The intern will report to the Assignment Manager and will be assigned to set up and follow-up on stories. Students will develop phone, reporting, customer service, and research skills. The internship may also include working in news production. Intern may be writing and preparing stories for the newscast under the guidance and approval of the Executive Producer. The intern will develop writing and news production skills. An intern may observe a reporter covering a story and how the reporter puts together the story for the news. The intern may observe the shooting of the story while the reporter is covering the story. The intern will learn how the video is edited for the newscasts. The intern will report to the Managing Editor and be assigned to observe the reporter in their day's assignment. The intern will develop writing and reporting skills.ELIGIBILITY:
To qualify for an internship at WHIO-TV, you must meet the following criteria:1. Enrolled in a four-year college 2. Must be a junior or senior, or graduate student majoring in communications or journalism.APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
Students must take the following steps to apply for an internship:1.Consult with your career counselor or student advisor.2.Complete the attached application form.3.Submit the following information along with your application:a.A cover letter introducing yourself and outlining the time(s) you will be available for an interview, days/times you are available to intern, phone number where you can be reached. b.A completed resume. c.A one-page essay regarding your career goals.4.Send your application, along with the above information, plus verification that you will receive credit for this internship, to the following address:WHIO-TV
