Ranger Talks – The Wrights at Huffman Prairie

Explore the pasture where the Wright Brothers continued their work after Kitty Hawk as they developed the world's first practical air plane, the 1905 Wright Flyer III, and taught 119 men and women how to fly.
Huffman Prairie Flying Field is open every day except Wednesday 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It is also closed for the USAF Marathon, September 19th and is subject to closure based on the needs of the United States Air Force and may be impacted by adverse weather – please call before visiting.

Amish Quilt Exhibit

September Open Labyrinth Walk

RC Air Show
The National Museum of the United States Air Force

Date: September 4-6, 2009
Get a pilot's perspective without leaving the ground! The annual Radio-Controlled Model Aircraft Air Show at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force typically features jets, warbirds and other aircraft that visitors can see flying overhead. But this year visitors will have a chance to see these acrobatic maneuvers from a while new perspective. John McNees and his partner Don Smith, two radio-controlled (RC) aircraft pilots, have inserted cameras to their radio-controlled (RC) planes. The cameras submit a live feed to multiple screens in a state-of-the-art trailer which will be located on the air show grounds.

Miamisburg Starving Artists is a non-profit organization that provides a scholarship to a high school student furthering their education in the art field. They also make donations to the City of Miamisburg, the Police and Fire departments and the Parks and Recreation department. There will be a puppet show for children on Saturday.

The event is being held in memory of Justin I Gambrell, a Carroll High School Alumni, who was killed in a tragic car accident on I-70 in September, 1998. The money raised will go to the Justin I. Richmond Main Street Art & Music Festival
From 10th to 5th Street, Richmond, IN

Main Street will have booths again this year! A 10x10 booth is $25, there is no charge for non-profits. Non-profits who participate will have their checks returned to them at the end of the festival.
Each block will have a theme :
500 Block – "Booksellers Row" (this block is already sold out)
600 Block – "How Cool is Your School" with booths representing Richmond's educational institutions.
700 Block – "Art & Music" with arts and craft booths.
800 Block – "Civic Pride" with Richmond City organizations and Wayne County organizations.
900 Block – "Past and Future Alternatives" with free pony rides for kids and Alpacas
1000 Block – "Talented Visitors" with the Murray Theater Centennial being featured.
The Post Office will also have a booth similar to the one at the Model-T Centennial. A special "Richmond Festival" cancellation stamp will be applied to post cards and mail on this day. Many merchants and organizations are having postcards created to sell or distribute to visitors as a 'collectable' as well as a way to send out the Richmond message.

Master Storyteller Opens DCAA Season

"Creative Dayton: Invention, Innovation, and Art in the Gem City" This moderately difficult bicycle ride along urban streets will stop at locations that tell the story of Dayton's "Creative Class." Sites visited will be the "Inventor's Walk" and the Engineers Club at RiverScape MetroPark; the NCR collection at the Dayton History Archival Center; the Oregon Arts and Historic District; and the home of internationally-renowned poet, Paul Laurence Dunbar. The tour ends where it started—in Wright-Dunbar Village.
Pre-registration is required – call 937-425-0008 and ask for Mark. All participants should be present no later than 8:30 a.m. for sign in and orientation. Bicyclists should be in good physical condition and feel comfortable gearing up and down hills. Tours may be cancelled due to inclement weather. Huffman Prairie Flying Field is located on an active military installation and may be closed without prior notice. 4th Annual Whitewater Walk

There will be a preview hike and concert Sept 19 at Starr-Gennett Pavilion in the Whitewater Gorge.
Cost: $20 one time registration fee entitles you to join in any or all of the daily or evening walks.
Walkers may choose daily walks that include canoeing, kayaking, riding the railroad, boating on Brookville reservoir or hiking through quaint small towns and scenic trails. Any daily walks you attend enable you to join in for supper around a campfire and all night camping if you choose.
Evening walks will also be available – 15 twilight walks scheduled for the week.

Korean War Exhibit Renovation

In preparation for the 60th anniversary of the Korean War, the National Museum of the United States Air Force will begin renovating the Korean War portion of its Modern Flight Gallery on September 21st. Aircraft will be moved from September 21-25, 2009. Korean War exhibits will be closed to visitors on September 21st with limited availability September 22-25. Visitors should expect periodic closures from now until the spring of 2010.

WWI Dawn Patrol Rendezvous

What many people call the “Great War” will be remembered at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force when one of the nation’s premiere historical aviation events is held Sept. 25-27. The World War I Dawn Patrol Rendezvous will feature vintage reproduction full scale and 7/8 scale aircraft, such as the Nieuport, SE.5 and Fokker Dr. I triplane. Pilots will perform precision flying in the skies above the museum and compete in a flour-bombing competition, with aircraft launching from and landing on the museum's rear field. Additional activities will include period re-enactors in a war encampment setting, era automobiles on display and participating in a parade, flying exhibitions by WWI radio-controlled aircraft, and a collector's show for WWI items. Aullwood Garden Drystone Workshop

Steamed corn-on-the-cob and lamb chili always taste good on an autumn afternoon and Aullwood's food booth features a variety of sandwiches made with their own farm raised meats. Exciting children's activities will keep the little ones entertained with crafts and games. Everyone enjoys a draft horse or tractor pulled wagon ride and a visit with farm animal friends. 3rd Annual Historic South Park & Arts Jazz Festival

This year's edition is a Celebration of local area musicians from Dayton, Cincinnati & Louisville featuring six ensembles. The organizers are planning the event to have a "block party" atmosphere as it will take place in the gazebo on Park Drive, on the west side of Wayne Avenue, a block North of Wyoming Street.
Free parking is available at Rite-Aid at Wayne & Wyoming, Hope Lutheran Church and Emerson Academy on Hickory Street. In case of rain, the event will not be cancelled but will move into the Emerson Academy Auditorium.

This fundraiser is being held to help assist the Singleton family through an emotional and financially difficult time. Todd was sick for nine months when he was diagnosed with stomach cancer in January 2008. He has undergone 3 major surgeries to try to remove the cancer and has undergone chemotherapy and radiation. His third surgery was in May 2009 and he is currently undergoing another round of chemotherapy and he has not worked since May. His wife has been able to work very little trying to be home to care for her husband.
