Wozniacki, Kanepi Into Finals In Tokyo

Saturday, October 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki is one match from taking her third title this year after overpowering unseeded Jarmila Gajdosova of Slovakia 6-4, 6-3 Friday in the semifinals of the $175,000 Japan Open Tennis Championships.

The top-seeded Wozniacki, who is just 18 years old, has titles at Stockholm and New Haven, vaulting her to a current ranking of 16th in the world. She needed just 1:15 to reach the finals thanks to saving 5-of-6 break points in the match.

Her finals opponent will be fifth seed Kaia Kanepi of Estonia, who was victorious over eighth-seeded Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-4, 6-4 in a little less than two hours.

The 2008 Japan Open champion will collect $28,000.
