Cirstea Rallies Past Lisicki For Tashkent Crown

Sunday, October 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - Romania's Sorana Cirstea rallied from a set down to beat Germany's Sabine Lisicki in the title match at the Tashkent Open.

The third-seeded Cirstea posted a 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) triumph on Sunday for her first career WTA Tour title. The 18-year-old Bucharest native had played just one previous final, losing to Gisela Dulko in Budapest last year.

This was the first WTA Tour final for the fourth-seeded Lisicki, whose best previous finish was a quarterfinal loss to Maria Kirilenko in Cincinnati two months ago.

Sunday's victory was worth $22,925 for Cirstea.
