America's first independent female millionaire

The first independent millionaire in the United States is a rags to riches story of an African-American woman by the name of Madame C.J. Walker. Born to former slaves, on a plantation in Delta, Louisiana, Walker was orphaned at a young age. In the 1890's Walker lost most of her hair due to a scalp ailment, but this coupled with working at her brother's barber shop, would lead to a successful beauty supply empire that lives on to this day.
