Snow flurries will continue off and on this morning with mostly cloudy skies. At this time, some area schools that were delayed earlier today have now closed, giving students another snow day.Wednesday, 7:15 a.m. Update
Dozens of schools around the region were delayed on Wednesday morning because wet roads re-froze overnight. A period of sleet and freezing rain on Tuesday night turned to ice, leaving patches of black ice on the roads.5 p.m. Update
Freezing rain is expected to continue for areas in the southeast of the valley, while snow will return to the northern parts of the Miami Valley. Temperatures will drop back into the teens overnight, causing wet roads to refreeze.Road crews were out all night placing salt on the roadways, in an effort to melt the ice. However, it is important to remember that salt does not work well with temperatures below 30 degrees.Storm Center 7 Meteorologists Jeff Porter said the Miami Valley could see some light flurries, but the day will be mostly cloudy with temperatures in the low 20s.1:55 p.m. Update

State Route 49 is closed and expected to stay that way for several hours. As we've been reporting on News Center 7 Daybreak, a Semi and a Waste Disposal truck crashed on slick roads on 49 just north of 721. Hazardous Materials crews have been called in because of something leaking from one of the trucks. Fortunately, it appears that there are no serious injuries, but the road will be closed for cleanup.7:10am Update

In Miami Township, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Rich Wirdzek said that at 5 a.m. Tuesday, the snow increased in intensity, leading to some slick road conditions.Viewers of News Center 7 have been sending in weather observations all morning, saying some areas along I-70 and southward are seeing periods of freezing rain and sleet.Several counties around the valley issued snow emergencies so that roadways can be cleared of the snow and ice. These emergencies mean that unless there is a need to be on the roads, drivers should either stay home or use extreme caution when traveling.Authorities said the snow is to blame for a late-night crash in Miami County. The crash happened on southbound Interstate 75 when a semi slid out of control and hit a guardrail south of Piqua.No one was injured in the crash.The Ohio Department of Transportation is asking motorist to not crowd snow plows Tuesday morning. ODOT said snow plows make sudden stops and travel slower that the speed limit.The snow plows can throw up clouds of snow that can also reduce your visibility. ODOT also said that motorists should not tailgate or travel directly behind a snow plow for long periods of time.The snow began to fall around 7 p.m. Monday in the northern part of the valley, and continued through the overnight hours. The snow finally began to fall in the Dayton-metro area around 9 p.m.This February snow storm is creating slick roads and hazardous driving conditions. Up to 250 schools and businesses have closed or announced delayed openings on News Center 7's School Watch.
