Summer Storms Pound Miami Valley

Posted: 5:02 pm EDT May 27, 2009Updated: 8:54 pm EDT July 11, 2009

Rain and lightning made for an interesting Saturday in parts of the Miami Valley.

Heavy rain fell across Miami and Darke counties. Several minor accidents were reported on Interstate 75.

Some roads in Troy were covered with several feet of water.

In Tipp City, lightning hit one home, knocking out several appliances inside.

Homeowner Jon Besserman said, "My wife noticed a pop. The breakers blew, our alarm went off and we lost several electronic items."

Besserman said storms are always a scary time for his family because a lightning strike three years ago nearly destroyed his home.

He said, "The roof caught fire. We had to rebuild the house from the ground up on the inside."

Besserman said this latest incident has his family rethinking their current living arrangement.

"This is going to make us think hard whether or not this is where we want to be."
