Severe weather moved through the Miami Valley early Tuesday morning and brought heavy rain, dangerous lightning and hail.

Storms began moving through the region around 3 a.m. in the far north and west counties. The storms brought heavy rain, which led to ponding on the roads, small flooding in fields and hail in New Lebanon.

The severe weather also prompted several thunderstorm warnings and watches for different counties in the Miami Valley.

In Dayton, heavy rain fell for about 10 minutes, which made it hard to drive and to walk, even with an umbrella.

The heavy rain also prompted a Flood Advisory for Preble and Montgomery counties, but it expired at 7:45 a.m.

Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Jeff Porter said the rain has moved out of the area, and that a dry spell should begin as the morning continues. However, Porter said that more rain is expected early to mid-afternoon.

The storms also caused numerous power outages in parts of the region, including south Dayton and Preble County.
