Air travel forecast: packed planes, higher fares

Fewer people plan to fly over the Thanksgiving holiday this year, but flights will be full and will cost more as carriers cut capacity and make fewer seat available at sale prices, according to an industry watch group.

Demand is way down from five years ago -- by 12 percent -- and is down 2 percent from 2010, according to the Air Transport Association of American (ATA).

The cutback in capacity and the number of seat offered at sale prices is expected to continue throughout the winter travel season, the ATA says.
