Scary economy doesn't quash Halloween spending

A lousy economy has not dampened the Halloween spirit.

Seven in 10 Americans are celebrating Halloween this year -- up 5 percent from last year, according to the National Retail Foundation.

And we're not talking about homemade costumes and popcorn balls; the average Halloween participant will spend more than $72 on decorations, costumes and candy, with total Halloween spending expected to reach $6.86 billion.
