It's not a full blown hearing on Impeachment of the President and Vice President of the United States, but don't expect Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) to take lightly a special meeting of the House Judiciary Committee today.
After introducing three dozen articles of impeachment earlier this summer against President Bush, Kucinich trimmed them down to one, and demanded that he be heard.
Top Democrats wanted no part of any "show" trial or anything like that, but they finally made sure Kucinich got his day in the sun.
The hearing is entitled, "Executive Power and Its Constitutional Limitations."
"Americans have been waiting for Congress to hold the President accountable for his long list of misdeeds and misrepresentations," Kucinich said in a statement. "This hearing is a long overdue first step."
It probably doesn't seem that way to Republicans, or even to some Democrats, who must wince when Kucinich gets up on the floor of the House to call for action against Messrs Bush and Cheney.
"Congress enacted legislation authorizing the use of force against Iraq based on representations made by the White House. We now know that these representations were false and that the White House knew them to be false," said Kucinich.
Among those slated to testify are former Congressman Bob Barr of Georgia, who also happens to be the current nominee for President of the Libertarian Party.
Barr was a manager on the part of the House for the Impeachment Trial in the Senate of President Bill Clinton.
One odd name on the witness list is Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC.) Jones is one of the few Republicans who broke ranks with the White House on Iraq, and has steadfastly opposed the war, much to the consternation of many in his district.
Somehow I bet that Walter Jones, Sr. might not be too happy about that. The former Congressman and chairman of the now defunct Merchant Marine Committee was a handful. But I'll blog about him some other day.
This hearing just has CSPAN written all over it, and then you can switch over to some of the more liberal blogs on the internet for postgame coverage.
