This was to be another week where Democrats in the Congress would highlight their differences with Republicans on certain budget issues and continue accusing the GOP of trying to end Medicare and Social Security. Instead, it's been "All Weiner, All The Time."
Wednesday's news featured several more calls for the resignation of embattled Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY), mixed in with the latest head-shaking part of this story, an explicit photograph of what seems to be the Weiner family jewels.
Without the gray underwear covering things up.
While there wasn't any concerted effort by Democrats to publicly call on Weiner to resign, lawmakers around the country were facing the question in regular appearances and interviews in their local media, creating the sense of a drumbeat against Weiner.
Getting a lot of the attention was Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-PA), who bluntly said it was time for Weiner to hit the road.
"In light of Anthony Weiner’s offensive behavior online, he should resign," she said.
Once again on Wednesday, there was no one stepping forward on the Democratic side to say that Weiner should be given another chance, that he should stay on in the Congress.
And in the halls of the Congress, there was the feeling that Democratic leaders want Weiner gone before Monday, when the House is slated to come back into session.
It may not seem like much to some of you, but if Weiner is still hanging around on Monday when lawmakers return after a week break, the first round of votes on Monday evening will be a media zoo.
Not only will my colleagues be chasing Weiner all over Capitol Hill, but every single Democratic member of the U.S. House will be fair game for one basic question:
"Do you think Anthony Weiner should resign?"
We'll see if the 'drip, drip, drip' picks up at all today for Democrats.
Many of them hope that Anthony Weiner is listening.
