A Presidential flight to Connecticut had something different today, as Air Force One was forced to abort its landing at Bradley International Airport because of bad weather.

The White House Pool report said, "FAA confirming a missed approach at 950a. Blames bad visibility. Says AF-1 had to go around and landed safely on 2nd try."

That was later confirmed in a statement by White House spokesman Nick Shapiro:

"AF1 did a go-round at Bradley Intl Airport this morning because of weather," Shapiro said in a statement emailed to reporters. "They circled around and landed safely a few minutes later, at 10:05 a.m."

"The pilot was in the process of landing but due to weather the pilot decided to circle around and then landed the plane, this is a standard and safe procedure," Shapiro added.

There have been strong storms up and down the East Coast the past two days, as that bad weather forced today's commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy to be held inside.

Reporters on board Air Force One evidently did not notice anything amiss when Air Force One landed, as it was news media gathered on the tarmac at the airport who saw the plane fly around and make a second approach.

After today's commencement address, President Obama will later fly on to Boston for a pair of fund raisers for the Democratic National Committee.
