More GSA Grief

We are watching a classic public flogging for the General Services Administration right now over an expensive conference held for federal employees, as another GSA official was put on administrative leave on Monday.

The only real question is - will the Congress, news media and public move on from this in coming weeks - until another $900 toilet seat or $500 hammer jumps into the public's consciousness.

The employees at GSA have certainly given Republicans in Congress something to chew on with some video evidence of them joking about not getting much scrutiny for spending the taxpayer's money.

"I'd never be under OIG investigation," one worker sings in this video, referring to the Office of Inspector General, which put out a stinging review last week of the GSA's conference spending in Nevada.

"I wanna be commissioner, so freaking bad," the video starts out with - check it out.

If you didn't know about the controversy over GSA travel spending, you certainly wouldn't know anything is amiss by looking at the GSA web site, which now sports a photo of the new "acting" chief of the agency, after administrator Martha Johnson quit last week.

The latest official to be put on leave is David Foley, who was the second in command at the GSA's Public Buildings Service (PBS in these videos does not refer to the Public Broadcasting Service.)

Here's another video from the GSA that centers on their big spending conference:

Republicans have already set hearings for next week on the matter, which is certain to draw a lot of fire from lawmakers in the Congress who want no part of waste by federal agencies.

But will there be long term change?

Maybe the videos will make a difference - we didn't have those in the past.
