Posted: 9:04 pm EDT June 28, 2006

(Sports Network) - Chicago Fire guard Nikki McCray is retiring from the WNBA.

McCray, a two-time Olympian and eight-year league veteran, is averaging just two points in 11 games this season. She is averaging just 7.8 minutes per game, which is well down from her 25.5 minutes per game average for her career.

During her time in the league, McCray has averaged 10.1 points and 1.8 assists per contest. She has played for Washington, Indiana, Phoenix, San Antonio and Chicago.

"Nikki is a true icon of women's basketball and has had an amazing career," general manager and head coach Dave Cowens said. "Her knowledge through her tenure with the WNBA has been extremely valuable to our team and to the other players and we are honored to have had her part of our inaugural team."

McCray won gold with the U.S. in 1996 and 2000.
