5 hospitalized after motorcyclist crashes through car’s back window during Miami Valley storm

MIAMI TOWNSHIP — Five people were hospitalized after a motorcycle and car crashed into one another on Interstate 75 in Miami Township early Sunday.

The Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol, Miami Township Police, and Miami Valley Fire were dispatched to Interstate 75 northbound near Interstate 675 on reports of an injury crash, dispatchers for state troopers said.

The initial report stated that the motorcyclist flew through the air and into the back window of the car during the crash, dispatchers confirmed.

As state troopers, officers, and medics all arrived, they found that several people were injured. Five people in total required medical attention and were transported to Kettering Health and Southview Medical Center (now known as Kettering Health Washington Township) for further care.

Their conditions were unknown at the time of questioning.

Although crashes such as these were considered serious, Montgomery County Regional Dispatch assured that the crash was not deadly.

The crash occurred at 12:38 a.m., during a night storm that rolled through the Miami Valley and caused heavy rain and strong winds to hit. During this time, News Center 7 crews on the street were able to confirm that the visibility was extremely low due to the deluge.

The weather conditions coincided with several crashes reported throughout the region.

Officials always advised, during these types of weather events where visibility remained low while driving, motorists should take precaution by driving slowly and carefully.

The Dayton post of Ohio State Highway Patrol led the investigation into the crash. Miami Township Police and Miami Valley Fire assisted with the incident.
