Champaign County man, 59, killed in Wednesday morning crash

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY — A man was killed in a crash involving a car and semitrailer on state Route 29 in Champaign County Wednesday morning, according to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies and medics were called to the 6600 block of state Route 29, near state Route 560, around 6:30 a.m. after the crash was reported.

Mark Roderick, 59, of Rosewood, was identified as the driver of a car who was killed in the crash, deputies said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found a semitrailer, driven by Brian Houpt, 42, of St. Paris, was backing into the driveway at a home when Roderick crashed his car into the trailer, deputies said.

Roderick was transported to Mercy-Health Urbana where he was pronounced dead.

Houpt was not injured in the crash.

Additional details were not released and the crash remains under investigation by the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office.
